How it all started
When I was around 6 years old I declared that I wanted to be a farmer's wife one day. Fast forward 22 years and I sort of did become a farmer's wife. While my husband isn't a farmer in the traditional sense ( he's in IT)He does work from home and we do live on a 4.6 acre homestead. We also have a menagerie of animals ranging from dogs and cats to goats, ducks, geese, chickens, a pony. And lastly a peahen who has adopted us.

Shortly after my husband I were engaged back in 2012 we started house hunting, the more we looked at houses in the suburban areas the less we felt that, that was the lifestyle we wanted for our future children. We didn't want postage stamp sized gardens, we didn't want to hear what our neighbours were watching on tv or hear them blow drying their hairWe did want space to grow our own veggies, have a flock of chickens and some privacy and quieter living conditions. We started looking at houses on the outskirts of our city. After a few disastrous houses and two offers that weren't accepted we found our current house. Looking back now the two rejected offers and seeing how neighbourhoods have changed it's actually a blessing in disguise. This November marks 10 years in our home and we have changed so many physical aspects. We also started and lost a few garden attempts before the one we currently have. We have added all but one of the pets we have: a cat who moved there with us, we got married, we had a baby ( who is 7 and a half!). We have put in a lot of work but it's been worth it. We wouldn't change it for anything.

When I said I wanted to be a farmer's wife I was mostly thinking about butter and milk, in my 6 year old mind I thought we'd have endless supplies of those. Now while I don't make butter, I do make a few cheeses, yogurt, we milk our mama goat daily. I make goat's milk soap, I bake sour dough bread a few times a week and we restarted our garden in a different area of our land last September. So I guess I can call my self a homesteading wife. And strange as it sounds back in 2012 those areas were considered very far out, there were no grocery stores close by, only one courier company delivered out that way and there were no schools out there. and yet it's still what we wanted. Now in 2022 a huge mall has opened up 7 minutes from us (back in 2015 already) and the city has moved a bit closer out to us, but not close enough to change things.

Now in spring we have a lot of exciting things coming up, our goats are pregnant and kidding in 3 short weeks, our garden is expanding even more to include a 3 sisters area, an orchard and a melon trellis! Exciting stuff is coming up and I hope you'll follow along.
